MADIBA DAY | 67 minutes of Kindness

"Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that generation." Nelson Mandela

The 18th of July is a tribute to a great man... and more so to what he accomplished.

We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate his life's work , other than spreading the cheer.

Our #1 Initiative | Wednesday 18 July 2018 @ 13:00 | Oudtshoorn CBD:

This happened in town, with the help of our  Wild Animal Volunteers! Staff of the Cango Wildlife Ranch gathered gifts, toys, food, blankets and books which were all handed out to unsuspecting public in mid-town.

Just giving wasn't deemed enough, so to add to the celebration we had them all draw "Random acts of Kindness" from a jar which they had to action.

These included anything from a hug, to complimenting someone at random.

On one side we had the privilege to spread the gift of kindness... but one the other, we all realised that it was so much more rewarding to be the giver.

Initiative #2: Change starts at home | Wednesday 18 July 2018 @ 13:00 - 14:07 | Cango Wildlife Ranch

Staff were asked to draw from their own Box of "Random Acts of Kindness" and boy, did it create a buzz of celebration.  Over 90 staff members participated and from 13:00 - 14:07 we witnessed one person giving 67 hugs, another hugging trees and compliments were making their way to one another at an exciting rate.

Watch a fun video on how our staff took the cheer all the way:

Veterinary care sits quietly at the centre of everything, supporting each animal, guiding every decision, and ensuring that those in our care receive the attention they deserve. It is not always visible to visitors, but it is always present. This year, we took a moment to reflect on the people behind that care. Dr...

For Every Kind Of Mother

Mother’s Day is often marked with flowers, gifts, and quiet moments of appreciation. This year at Cango Wildlife, it becomes something more. A two day celebration, on 09 and 10 May, dedicated not only to human mothers, but to every form of motherhood we are privileged to witness. Because care is not limited to one species. Across the facility, motherhood takes many shapes. It is seen in the quiet watchfulness of a...

A Community That Shows Up

In Oudtshoorn, wildlife is part of daily life. And when that life crosses into homes, schools, or businesses, there is often one person people call first - Mornay Thysse. For years, Mornay has been the steady hand in moments of panic. Safely removing and relocating snakes, protecting both people and wildlife with calm, skill, and respect for the animals he works with. His role is not always easy. It is often urgent,...
