There is a shift in the air this year. You will feel it as you move beneath the tree canopies, where 40 years of conservation have led to this moment. You will hear it first. The sound of excited children moving ahead. Searching. Running. Engaging with nature as it was always meant to be. On 4 and 5 April, we will host our third annual Easter Egg Hunt. This is not only...
Wild, Wicked & Full of Wonder
October at Cango Wildlife and the Wild Animal Volunteer programme brought a spirited twist to conservation, as staff, volunteers, and our Ambassador Animals joined in a playful celebration of Halloween.
From hand-painted enrichment bags to paper-bag mask antics in the veld, this year’s festivities blended fun with purpose, showcasing the creativity and heart behind our animal-care and volunteer teams.
Halloween is more than costumes and treats at Cango. It is an opportunity to enrich the lives of our animals and highlight the passion and teamwork that power our facility each day.
Our team prepared themed enrichment for our Ambassador Animals, creating colourful, character-filled bags designed to stimulate curiosity, play, and natural behaviour. Two of our cheetahs inspected their bright, smiley enrichment with great enthusiasm, reminding everyone that enrichment is both science and joy.
Across the veld, our Wild Animal Volunteers created their own Halloween moment. With hand-drawn expression masks and a backdrop of our Karoo landscape, volunteers embraced a quirky, mischievous “mystery crew” theme. Their creative take on Halloween added lighthearted charm to their conservation day - playfulness balanced by purpose.
These snapshots reflect the spirit of the WAV programme. Our volunteers work hard, learn deeply, and still find time to celebrate, connect, and build memories that last long beyond their stay.
While costumes and laughter filled the day, the heart of Halloween at Cango stayed true to our shared mission:
Conserve. Care. Connect.
Every team member, and volunteer plays a role in ensuring optimal welfare for the animals in our care, and events like this remind us that dedication and joy can - and should - coexist.
Together, we prove that conservation isn’t only serious work - it is a living, breathing community grounded in respect, teamwork, and moments of delight.
As we close another Halloween at the Ranch, we celebrate our people, our animals, and our global volunteers who make this place what it is. The costumes fade, the masks come off, but the passion remains year-round.

Some people never ask to be seen. They show up. They do the work. They hold things together, quietly and consistently. Aunty Jackie is one of those people. At our facility, every animal eats because of her. Every portion is measured. Every diet is prepared with care. It is precise work. Demanding work. Work that leaves no room for error. And for years, she has carried it with pride, discipline, and a...
