How Calvin Klein Perfume Drives Big Cats Crazy

Posted on Tue July 29, 2025.

The scent of this perfume, known for its musky and spicy notes, evokes an almost magical response in these apex predators. When used as scent enrichment, it can keep them captivated for several minutes, sometimes even hours.

Using perfumes and scents in animal enrichment programmes has been practiced for many years. Zookeepers and researchers have long experimented with different smells to stimulate animals’ senses and provide both mental and physical stimulation. But Obsession for Men stands out for its uniquely strong impact. The secret? A synthetic compound called Civetone - designed to mimic a natural pheromone found in the glands of the African Civet. Combined with musk, sandalwood, and amber, this formula appears to trigger heightened curiosity and playfulness in big cats.

One standout example is our stunning African Leopard, Nanji. Typically cool, calm, and collected - often perched up in the trees or relaxing under the bushes - Nanji’s entire demeanour shifts with just a few sprays of the scent. Her solitude gives way to lively exploration. We’ve observed her rolling onto her back, rubbing her face against logs and rocks sprayed with the perfume, and even pouncing at the scented area as if it were live prey. It’s a rare glimpse into the kitten-like side of a powerful predator - an engaging experience that sparks her instincts and provides essential stimulation.

If you're planning a visit to Cango Wildlife Ranch, and you're looking for a fun and meaningful way to support our work, consider donating a bottle of Calvin Klein’s Obsession for Men. It’s a small and unexpected gift — but one that offers big enrichment for our beloved feline ambassadors.

Whether you're dropping by or volunteering with us, help us keep the wild spirit alive — one spray at a time.
